Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement – having just clinched his 13th Premier League title – in 2013, Manchester United have failed to maintain a concerted challenge for the title in any season since.
Hand-picked by Ferguson, David Moyes was appointed as the successor to the decorated Scot on May 9, 2013. Giving up his long-held post at Everton, Moyes took charge at Old Trafford – the biggest job in English football – and was given the unforgiving task of filling Ferguson’s shoes.

10 months later, on April 22, 2014, with the Red Devils in seventh place and mathematically certain to miss out on Champions League qualification, Moyes was sacked. At the time, former United star Denis Law appealed for Moyes to be given more time, as reported by the Daily Mail. However, the Red Devils showed no such patience.
Whilst the club have landed silverware under the subsequent managers – Louis van Gaal and current boss Jose Mourinho – they have never threatened to compete for either the Premier League title or the Champions League.
Things now are perhaps worse than ever. United once again sit in seventh, they are playing negative, uninspiring football, and the mood around Old Trafford is grim. Big signings such as Alexis Sanchez and Fred are flopping and Mourinho is permanently in a combative mood. In many ways, since Moyes’ departure, precious little progress has been made, and any semblance of a plan has disintegrated.
Had Moyes been given only a few months longer and another transfer window in which to make the squad his own, could things be any worse than now? Probably not. They could certainly be better though. Moyes certainly still believes he should have been given longer to prove his quality, as reported by talkSPORT.
What do you think, United fans, should Moyes have been given more time?
