Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay should make a move for Jason Puncheon in January as the Crystal Palace midfielder’s contract is due to end in the summer of 2019, meaning he could be available on a cut-price deal.
What’s the situation?
Wednesday currently sit 11th in the Championship after a decent start to the season, during which they’ve won three, drawn one and lost two matches. Their form in recent weeks has been impressive though and the Owls are now going in to Saturday’s tie with recently relegated Stoke City having won three league matches on the bounce.
During the summer, Luhukay’s side were subjected to a transfer embargo by the football league for failing to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, meaning that they were unable to sign any players on a permanent basis.
However, the ban was lifted after the initial deadline day and Wednesday were able to bring in Chelsea centre-back Michael Hector and Spurs midfielder Josh Onomah on temporary deals.

Unmissable chance
Although Wednesday’s squad is already impressive, the one area that could do with reinforcement is in attacking midfield, as Onomah is the only player in the squad whose natural position is central behind a striker.
Puncheon is extremely experienced and has been at Crystal Palace for four years after his move from Southampton in 2014, but he could surely be persuaded to move with the promise of regular game time and a promotion push in the Championship.
So far this season the 32-year-old has made just one appearance for the Eagles in the Carabao Cup and he should seriously consider looking to force a move in January.
