Marcus Rashford scored just his fifth Premier League goal of the season on Sunday as Manchester United continued their long unbeaten run in England’s top flight with a 2-0 victory at home to table-topping Chelsea.
Rashford’s goal tally has suffered due to Jose Mourinho’s preference of selecting the 19-year-old in a wide position, but he impressed through the middle at the weekend as leading scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic was rested.
Matteo Darmian is another that received praise for his performance at Old Trafford, and the Italian has lavished praise on Rashford, insisting that the England international can become “one of the most important players in the world”.
Darmian told Man United’s official website:
“Of course, he took his goal very well. Marcus is a great player and he’s still very, very young. I think he’s very important for us with his quality. He can be one of the top players, one of the most important players in the world, because he’s very good in every part of the game.
“He has a very good shot, good movement, speed and like a striker sometimes every ball that he touches he scores. Sometimes it’s also normal that they have a period where they don’t score. But I hope he can continue like this, to help the team reach the objectives.”
Rashford broke into the Man United team in the second half of last season, and ended the 2015-16 campaign having scored eight times in 18 appearances under the stewardship of Louis van Gaal.
The teenage forward has now scored in his last two Premier League appearances for the Red Devils, although he is yet to find the back of the net in seven Europa League appearances this term – four of which have been starts.
