It must be said that Celtic do not really miss the services of Aiden Mcgeady. Don’t get me wrong, during his time at Celtic Park he was always one of few that showed true quality. Furthermore he was a true Celtic fan, loved the club and that sat very well with the Celtic faithful.
With the money being offered and the situation Celtic found themselves in t the time I think it was sensible and right to cash in on one of our prized assets. The Sale of the Republic of Ireland international was thought to be in the region of £10m, this money served to allow new manager Neil Lennon to build a team that he saw capable of bringing the title back to Parkhead.
Although this current league campaign may not be going to plan, I still believe apart from Rangers Celtic have remained unchallenged and it is therefore difficult to suggest that if McGeady were still within the ranks, would he have made a difference? I may have been of a different opinion had our tenure in Europe been a little more fruitful.
During European campaigns McGeady would tirelessly run at defences and cause pressure for even the most capable of fullbacks. Since Celtic have not come up against teams of a similar caliber it is difficult to see if we miss the nippy winger.
Although a Celtic fan, there were aspects of negativity that surrounded his attitude in the dressing room and his love for a cheeky night out. These kind of characteristics certainly will not be missed and I believe the current state of the dressing room atmosphere is a more healthy environment than that of it during McGeady’s final couple of years.
I believe Celtic were correct to sell McGeady, the money from his sale has brought in new faces that have the potential to compete on all fronts. Finally, it became evident towards the end of his spell at the club that he was looking elsewhere to play his football, it was only correct we grant him his wish.
